1. Clerking
- Number the entry forms (typically Month
– entry number, i.e. 8-1, 8-2, etc.)
- Fill out the sheet for Valerie (Genus and hybrid names get capitalized, species does not)
- Look up the parents and number of awards (# of AMs, HCCs, etc)
- Look at the plants and think about how they fit the current scoresheet
- Present the plants to the judges as they are ready for each one
- Give clonal name of the plant ONLY if it has received a prior award.
- Move the awarded plants to the photographer
- Ensure Valerie gets the correct paperwork
- Move the “screened” plants to the holding area
- Generally, keep an eye on the progress of the judging and lend a hand where it's needed.
- Allow the head judge to assist with moving plants after judging while your retrieve the next plant to be judged.
2. Judging at the table
- Pay attention to the discussion about the plant
- Attend “field trips” to see the plant in different light
- Work with an accredited judge on your scores
- Keep track of your score in comparison to the scores given by the judges / Plant’s final award. If your score is not within spread, figure out why.
3. Working with Frank
- Fill out Frank’s entry sheet in large lettering for reading
- Absorb as much info from Frank about the orchid as you can
- Absorb as much info about Frank’s program as you can
4. Computer Research
- Have computer up and ready for searching of AOS awards
- Be proficient with Orchid Pro so you know where any and all information is and how to access it.f
- Pay attention to the plant on the table to be looking up info
- Try to get parent info to be ready to search
- Be ready to announce information when asked. The screen isn't always legible from where the judges are setting.
5. General Tasks
-Help get the space setup upon arrival
- Work with an accredited judge on writing descriptions
- Help to get things cleaned up at the end of the day
